A Figure of Simhanada Avalokiteshvara. Pala Period, 9th to 13th c A.D Kashmir

Very fine and attractively elaborated massive black stone relief of seated figure of Simhanada Avalokiteshvara. Pala Period, 9th to 13th Century A.D from Kashmir region North of Pakistan/India. 

Seated on a flower patterned cushion supported by three figures on a lotus pedestal, the Bodhisattva resting in a royal regal posture, rajalilasana, his left hand is resting on his Thigh and the right hand is holding the stem of a lotus, the right hand elegantly poised over the raised right knee, a yajnopavita falling from the deity’s left shoulder, and draping on the thigh, the knotted hair enlaced with strings of jewels and tied with a diminutive crown with a small figure of Buddha beside a small figure of Amitabha, Avalokiteshvara’s spiritual progenitor, seated upon the double lotus throne. Very collectible and rare artifact of history.

Height: 60 cm (Height with a custom wooden stand is 64 cm)

Condition: Missing some portion of the upper left of the back side, with minor edge chipping and loses with soil patina and very smooth surface.

NO REPAIRING or restorations at all ! Intact as a fragment. (see images for more details) Net weight 34 kg
